What is ABA?
For over four decades, behavioral scientists have been observing, measuring, and changing behaviors, publishing the results in peer-reviewed journals, and contributing to the development of skills for individuals of different ages and with varying diagnoses. ABA New England provides applied behavior analysis (ABA therapy) to children, adolescents, and adults throughout Northern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire in home, community, school, and clinic-based environments. Programs are individually designed and are based on B.F. Skinner’s (1957) analysis of verbal behavior. Programs are designed and overseen by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board-Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). ABA New England is unique in that additional support is provided to therapists and families by graduate-level case managers who are pursuing board certification.Behavior analysis is the scientific study of behavior. The underlying philosophy of behavior analysis is behaviorism; the idea that a science of behavior, and therefore behavior change, is possible (Baum). Through direct observation of behavior and manipulation of the environment, behavior can be changed. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the application of the principles of behavior analysis with the goal of changing socially significant behaviors.
